I hope your Welsh members will be interested in my journey to get my Welsh screenplay about an amazing Welsh Prince in the 15th century off the ground. The journey has been long and arduous, but to prove that THE LAST PRINCE OF WALES is worth producing. Richard Attenborough read it in 2005, loved it and wanted to direct it. Karl Jenkins, the international composer [ who comes from Swansea, like me] read it, loved it and wanted to compose the music. [Imagine the sound of his stirring music!] I was floating with joy, until disaster overtook Richard?s family in the form of that terrible tsunami which killed his daughter and granddaughter. After that, he [understandably] lost interest in the project and Karl went onto to other projects. Fighting terrible disappointment, I put my script in a drawer, left it there for years and carried on writing books.
However, I took the script out a couple of weeks ago and realised I must never give up on it as it?s a great, dramatic story which audiences would enjoy.
The script is now in the hands of two Welsh producers and we?re trying to get Welsh funding for it. If you know of anyone who would like to support a great Welsh project, please let me know.
I?ve also sent the script to two great Welsh actors; either of whom would make a great Owain.
I want this project to raise Wales? profile onto a global stage as Wales seems to be overshadowed by Ireland and Scotland in films and in life.
I think about what the film Braveheart did for Scotland and yet Mel Gibson wasn?t even a Scot! Imagine what a great Welsh cast could do for Wales!
I want to see Owain galloping across the screen so much, it hurts. I?m sure there must be many Welsh people who?d love to see a big Welsh film made. I hope you can help.
